All of Harry’s friends are welcome to attend.

The VBSA Members, and all involved with VIctorian Snooker, are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Harry Andrews (92) on Wednesday afternoon.

An icon of our game, Harry won the Victorian Snooker Championship in 5 successive years, from 1967-1971. He was Runner-Up in the Australian Snooker Championship in 1970.

In 1966, and 1972, Harry was Runner-Up in Victoria’s State Title to Bob McLass, our other great Champion of the Era - making 7 Successive Finals.

Everybody who met Harry would have acknowledged a very fine person, who always competed strongly at our sports, and, with an appreciation of everyone else’s efforts.

Last Friday, the 50th Holding of the Andrews/Atkins Shield was a superb Event, highlighting the tremendous legacy that Harry Andrews, and Ron Atkins OAM, have bequeathed to our Sports.

We are saddened at Harry’s passing but thrilled to have had Harry’s presence in our Sports and our lives.

RIP Harry Andrews

Victoria’s STEVE MIFSUD is the 2022 Australian National Billiards Champion after defeating MICHAEL PEARSON in the Final, at the Yarraville Academy, today.

STEVE won the Final by 1545-832, and is a deserving Winner of the “Oswald Sealy Perpetual Trophy”.

Over the course of the Championship, STEVE made breaks of 255, 249, 237, 231, 229, 216, 207, 202 and made 13 more century breaks.

Fellow century-break makers were (Runner-Up) Michael Pearson (from NSW), (Semi-Finalist) Rodney Nelson, James Mifsud, John Schenck and (Semi-Finalist) Joshua Burns (from Tasmania).

The VBSA and the ABSC are extremely grateful to all the players, especially those who travelled from Interstate.

The Yarraville Club provided magnificent facilities, and tremendous support for our Sports over these last 11 days.

We are extremely appreciative of all our Sponsors, and the manner in which they ensure that our Sports continue to grow, and expand into our Communities.

2022 Pacific International Billiards

The Final of this year’s Pacific International Billiards, at the Yarraville Club’s Academy, provided one of the most amazing matches in living memory!

Presented in the photograph: Sourav Kothari (L), from India, was playing Rob Hall (R), from England, and the Final was Refereed by Garvin Gray (C), from Queensland.

The Final required the Winner to amass 1500 points, and there was a significant interval when the “leading player” had passed 750 total points, and concluded their “visit” to the table.

In this Championship Final, having amassed 4 century breaks by the Interval, Sourav was leading by 780 points to 223! In most sports, this would be considered an insurmountable lead, but with World-Class Billiards players  “No Lead Is Safe”!

After the interval, Rob Hall produced breaks of 177, 78 and 391 (Highest Break of the Championship!) to not only catch Sourav, but to “storm” to a slender lead!

Not to be outdone, Sourav provided his 5th Century-break of the Final, and was able to regain the lead, with the finishing line in sight.

With Rob trailing 1321 to 1422, Sourav was able to produce a break of “78 unfinished” to achieve the win, and be crowned “Champion”!

Rob Hall displayed tremendous fighting qualities to reach the lead in the latter stages of the contest. And Sourav showed incredible steadiness under pressure to finish out with a break of 78!

All who were fortunate to witness this “Titanic Struggle”, will long remember an enthralling contest between two Great Champions!

Congratulations to Sourav Kothari

Replay of the Final is still available on CueballTV on YouTube
