World Billiards Championship and World Open

World Billiards and the Australian Billiards & Snooker Council are delighted to announce that the 2019 World Billiards Championship and 2019 World Open will take place at the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria, in Melbourne, Australia, between the Sunday 6th and Saturday12th of October.

The World Open will be played over the first two days of this period. The World Billiards Championship will be contested between Tuesday 8th and Saturday 12th.

The historic and prestigious World Billiards Championship, first contested in 1870, was played in Melbourne in 1934, when Australian billiards legend Walter Lindrum defended his title against England’s Joe Davis. 85 years later, the Championship will be played in Australia for the second time.

The RACV Club is an outstanding venue for this event, with a first-class members only billiard room, extensive dining facilities and an on-site hotel. It is situated right in the heart of Melbourne within walking distance of numerous cafes, restaurants and entertainment facilities.

Further details will be released shortly.

Reventon HAT TRICK Snooker Series

Reventon Snooker is very proud to announce the birth of a brand new event to the Aussie snooker calendar.

The Reventon HAT TRICK Snooker Series is a new, non-ranking, knock-out event which will exclude the top 16 ranked Victorian and top 32 Australian ranked players.  These events are designed to give everyone a fair go as well as encourage new faces to our beautiful game.

Reventon Snooker would also love to see a healthy entry of female and junior faces participating in these events, so please spread the word and bring the kids along.

Three events are scheduled throughout the year, the first kicking off on March 1-3. Two other events are likely to be scheduled for May 31-June 2 and then Aug 16-18.

There will also be a Blue Ball SHOOTOUT at each event, which has also proven to be a lot of fun!

See attached entry form for further information or get in touch with REVENTON SNOOKER on their Facebook page if you have any questions. https://www.facebook.com/events/682855972148785/

Note: The draw will be limited to the first 64 paid entrants.

2019 VBSA Pennant

As discussed at the AGM, there will be some changes to VBSA pennant in 2019.

  • Season 1 round robin will be 14 weeks (making that season 19 to 20 weeks with essential byes and finals). Season 2 round-robin will be 18 weeks (making that season also 20 weeks with finals – there are no byes in the second half of the year).
  • In season 1 A & B Premier Snooker will revert to 6-player teams. This is being done to satisfy requests from a number of players – but the VBSA expects the snooker community to respond by entering eight 6-player teams in each grade.
  • We will not continue with the 4th frame for the number 1 players in some grades (except in finals).
  • Season 1 Teams need to be submitted by 21st January. The forms will be available on the VBSA web site soon.
  • Monday night billiards (A & B) will commence on the 11th February. Monday night snooker will commence on the 18th February.
  • All Wednesday night grades will commence on the 20th February.

Season 1 Pennant

Please note that the Season 1 tables for C State Snooker (CVS1) are not accurate as the grade is being divided into an East & West competition due to large number of entries.

Fixtures for ALL Grades have now been finalised and are available on the VBSA Scores/ Season 1 page.  All Captains will be e-mailed & texted to alert them to availability of fixtures.

Please contact me at scores@vbsa.org.au or 0422 304 052 if you have any queries.

Thank you for your patience & co-operation.
